The kitchen is in a large family residence with adult children and 2 dogs… a busy home and a busy kitchen! The clients had a vision and knew exactly what they wanted but black painted kitchen’s not unlike black painted cars, aren’t very forgiving, and will show up the slightest of imperfection.
The workmanship needed to be sharp but smooth, meticulous preparation with attention paid to every detail. Lots of prep, lots of sand (dust free with our dustless sanding systems) existing holes filled, sanded and re-drilled for new handles and knobs.
When I say this was a makeover, that is an understatement. It is a transformation of an existing wooden painted ‘creamy kitchen’ with solid wood worktops to stylish and contemporary showpiece.
The services of a local cabinet maker employed to move around and rebuild some units. The old wood worktops were used to construct some of the replacement doors (an eco-friendly project in many ways).
Chosen colour for the cabinets was an equivalent to Little Green Paints ‘Lamp Black’ mixed by our specialist paint suppliers. Although a dark colour the paint required 2 base coats, tinted to the same colour and 3 tops coats, with a light sanding in between each coat, this added lots of depth.
Chromed cup handles to all the draws with complementing knobs on the doors and matching hinges. Together with the feature island to this black painted kitchen, which was solid granite with a leather effect finish and veins of deep yellow gold.
New tiled splash-back behind the range, new range, new double ovens and new wine cooler integrated into the central island… Viola!!!
