Painted kitchen Nottingham; here’s a kitchen revamp we carried out to a lovely wooden kitchen in a beautiful period home in Attenborough Village, Nottingham.
The initial enquiry came through the website and as the job was local, a site visit was arranged to meet the client at their home and discuss the project in more detail… I’m also happy to answer any questions or provide advice, via email or phone call, once I receive pictures of your kitchen and any potential colour schemes you may have already chosen.
The client had a list of questions to ask and the answers are readily available; having painted, renovated and restored hundreds of kitchens over the years… there isn’t anything we haven’t come across beforehand. This project was typically a hand made, bespoke kitchen and around 15 years old. Constructed in pine and originally made and fitted by a local kitchen company. Still in good condition, solid built and a nice design… a few loose hinges and drawer runners and the handles in need of replacing. The Painting Process: Painted Kitchen Nottingham
We start by removing all the doors and draws, number them in sequence and remove the hardware. This gives us good access to all the frames and ensures all surfaces of the doors are prepared and painted (its a real pet hate and such bad practice not removing doors) we see all too often, previous painted kitchens with the back edge of the doors without paint on them; a minor detail but one that needs to be done correctly! Preparing your kitchen for painting; on an average 20+ door kitchen, we can spend up to 2 days, cleaning every inch of it, thoroughly and meticulously… if this part isn’t done right, then the paint system (no matter how durable) will fail in the future… Preparation is key!
We then mask up and protect, the work surfaces, flooring and anything else that isn’t being painted. You can still use your kitchen throughout the whole process… but it is a good excuse though to have a few cheeky takeaways or get the hubby to take you out somewhere nice for dinner.
Next step is applying the primer… a high adhesion primer that will grip to the previously prepared surface… this dries overnight to a lovely flat finish and after a very light de-nib with a fine abrasive, we a ready to start applying the top coats.
A beautiful, silky smooth finish that comes in a 10% or 30% sheen level… personally I prefer the 10% sheen, as on this kitchen, but its entirely up to you. The paint system we use can be tinted to most popular colour palettes, so the choice is endless…!
Reboot existing kitchen furniture to match: Painted Kitchen Nottingham
Upcycling your existing dining furniture is a great way to add a splash of extra colour to the mix and ensures the colours match with your new look designer kitchen. Our client decided to go for the equivalent colour of Stiffkey Blue on the dining chairs, to match the panelled oven canopy and the equivalent of New White to the table legs to match in with the main kitchen units. We can also refurbish the table tops and finish in a clear or tinted stain, lacquer, oil or wax.
