A well-made kitchen does not necessarily need replacing simply because the colour or finish has become tired.
Professional hand painting can completely transform an existing kitchen, allowing you to retain the cabinetry, layout and quality you already have while giving the whole room a fresh new appearance.
The Process
Every kitchen is different, so the exact preparation and painting process is tailored to the cabinetry and existing finish.
The principles, however, remain the same:
careful preparation, the correct paint system and meticulous hand finishing.
Once the project begins, doors, drawers and removable components are normally taken off and carefully labelled.
These are prepared and painted away from the main kitchen area, usually in my workshop, while the fixed frames, end panels, cornices and other fitted cabinetry are prepared and hand painted in your home.
This helps keep the project organised and reduces disruption.
Worktops and surrounding surfaces are carefully protected, cabinet interiors are masked where necessary and sanding is carried out using professional dust-controlled extraction equipment where appropriate.
The cabinetry is then thoroughly prepared, repaired where required, primed and finished using specialist coatings selected for durability and suitability for kitchen furniture.
Only once everything is ready are the doors and drawers returned, refitted and adjusted

If you are considering a change, first thoughts would normally be to replace or upgrade the whole kitchen, but I don’t think the default answer is to throw out your kitchen just because it looks dated. In most cases, an existing kitchen is probably structurally sound but in need of a makeover and refurb.
Replacement is a very expensive proposition, as even the smallest classic, contemporary or farmhouse kitchen will cost several thousand to install and fit, and I have seen enough kitchens to know that £25000 to £45000 and higher, is not unusual for a new, large, well equipped kitchen.

Financially, hand-painting an existing kitchen is also a very viable alternative to a new kitchen, achieving a total transformation for 10% to 20% of the cost of new.
