If you’re looking for a professional kitchen painter in Nottingham who specialises in hand painted kitchens, this recent project in Wollaton Park is a perfect example of how a tired kitchen can be beautifully transformed. At Russ Pike Interiors, I recently completed the full repainting of an existing kitchen along with the restoration and resurfacing of the solid oak wooden worktops — bringing new life and warmth back into this lovely home.

This project was carried out in Wollaton Park, just a stone’s throw from my base in Bramcote, Nottingham. While I’m local to Bramcote, I regularly work across Nottinghamshire, the wider East Midlands and afar, providing bespoke hand painted kitchen services and custom built furniture painting for clients who value traditional craftsmanship over the current trend of sprayed finishes.
The clients found me online while searching for a kitchen painter in Nottingham who specialises specifically in hand painted finishes. They wanted the authentic, brush-painted look that brings depth, texture, warmth and individuality — something a sprayed finish simply can’t replicate. After receiving an online quotation, they decided I was the right fit for their project.
The kitchen layout itself worked well for the clients and didn’t need altering. However, after several years of use, the cabinetry and wooden worktops were showing their age. The paint had dulled, and the oak work surfaces had developed dark water stains around the sink and tap areas — a common issue in older wooden kitchen worksurfaces.
The central island featured a lovely butcher’s block-style design topped with granite, which was still in excellent condition. With careful preparation and attention to detail, I was able to focus on rejuvenating the wooden worktops and repainting the kitchen units to achieve a refreshed, timeless look.

Dust-Free Sanding and Refinishing the Oak Worktops
One of the key parts of this project was sanding and resurfacing the oak worktops. Using a wood bleach my dust-free sanding equipment, I was able to remove the dark staining and years of wear without creating any mess in the clients’ home.

Once the surface was perfectly smooth, I applied a durable top oil finish designed to enhance the natural grain of the oak and protect it from everyday spills and moisture. This process not only revived the wood but also gave it a rich, warm sheen that complemented the newly hand-painted cabinetry beautifully.
The Benefits of a Hand Painted Finish
Choosing a hand painted kitchen brings a unique level of charm and character. Unlike spray painting, hand painting allows for subtle brush marks and a tactile finish that feels timeless and personal. It’s also easy to maintain and touch up in the future, making it an excellent long-term investment.
For this Wollaton kitchen, the transformation was striking — from a tired, worn-out space to a bright and rejuvenated hub of the home.
New handles, knobs and hardware
When giving your kitchen a fresh new look, replacing the handles, knobs and hardware can make just as much difference as the paint itself. After your kitchen cabinets have been professionally hand painted, updating the hardware is a simple yet highly effective way to complete the transformation and add a touch of style and personality. My recommended Ironmongery suppliers Slingers 1858 offer some great discounts to clients, they have a very impressive range to choose from and provide a speedy delivery service. If you are wanting to have a completely different style of handle or knob, I can carry out invisible repairs to existing holes and install the new hardware of your choice.

Kitchen Painting and refurbishment Services Across Nottingham and the East Midlands
Although this particular project was in Wollaton Park, I carry out hand painted kitchen refurbishments throughout Nottingham, Bramcote, Beeston, West Bridgford, and across the East Midlands. This year alone I have carried out projects in Ripon, North Yorkshire, Bath in Somerset, Hemal Hampstead, Dore in Sheffield, Ingham in Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire, so I do get around a bit. Whether your kitchen is oak, ash, pine, MDF, or beech, I can repaint and refurbish it to give it a completely new lease of life — at a fraction of the cost of replacement. If its a completely new installation, I paint those too!
