My Approach to Hand Painting Kitchens
I’ve been working as a decorator, painter and surface finisher for more than 40 years, and I still believe that good preparation is the foundation of a good finish.
It’s not the most glamorous part of the job, but it is probably the most important. Over the years I have invested in the most effient dust free sanding equipment for all the necassary preparation and have developed procedures and paractices to save time and work smarter, most importantly safer, for You, Me and the Enviroment.
Before any painting takes place, I look carefully at the condition of the existing kitchen. Surfaces need to be properly cleaned and prepared, and any repairs or imperfections dealt with before the painting process begins.
The preparation will vary depending on the materials and existing finish, because no two kitchens are exactly the same. I start by removing all the doors and drawers, which are then taken back to my workshop. Once everything is properly prepared, the painting can begin.
I use modern, high-quality coatings, including water-borne acrylic top coats where appropriate, to create a hard-wearing finish that’s suitable for the demands of a busy kitchen. All the specialist paints I use can be matched into most of the popular colour palettes. The choice is endless…
And throughout the process, I pay particular attention to the details.
It’s those details that make the difference.

One of the things I like about hand painting is that it doesn’t have to look overly manufactured.
There is a warmth and character to a beautifully painted timber kitchen that can sometimes be lost when everything is replaced with brand-new, mass-produced cabinetry. MDF and Vinyl Wrapped kitchens can also be painted.

The important thing is knowing which products and preparation methods are appropriate for the particular kitchen.
That’s where experience counts.
After more than four decades in the decorating trade, I’ve seen a lot of different surfaces, finishes and decorating problems. That experience helps me understand what a kitchen needs before the first coat of paint goes on.
