Painting a Vinyl Wrapped Kitchen

We paint lots of kitchens made from all kinds of different materials: Oak, Pine, Beech, Maple, MDF and Tulipwood. But we can also paint Laminate and Vinyl Wrapped kitchens.

Painting foil wrapped Kitchens

This is a good example of a hand painted vinyl wrapped kitchen we did in Shepshed, Leicestershire. Provided that the wrapping is in good condition and isn’t peeling on the edges, then it’s going to be absolutely fine to paint. If the vinyl is peeling or lifting, it can in most cases be stripped off with the use of a heat gun to soften the wrapping. A good visual check will normally determine which route to take.

Painting wrapped kitchens

This kitchen was in good sound order, so ideal for painting and getting rid of the dark wood, grained effect wrapping. These type of kitchens paint up really nice and the mid slate grey colour the clients chose, worked really well with the contrasting colour theme throughout their home.

Hand painting vinyl wrapped or foil and laminate kitchen cabinet doors is a cost effective way of up dating your existing kitchen without the hassle of replacement. Great if you’re looking to market your home to sell or just fancy modernising what you already have.

Prep and painting a wrapped kitchen

All surfaces will require a thorough clean down and degrease, they will then need to be lightly sanded using a fine abrasive to form a mechanical key to help the paint adhere to the surface. A high adhesion primer is applied, usually tinted to the same colour as the chosen top coat. Once this has dried overnight, then two top coats are applied. The second top coat can be applied in the same day but its best left again overnight to harden off and be fully dry before applying the final top coat.

This whole process can take several days to complete, if its done thoroughly and correctly. I see various adverts from companies who spray finish kitchens who claim to have your kitchen painted in a day! Yes they probably can, but in comparison, it takes at least a day and in most cases two days to correctly prepare a kitchen This is before any paint is applied. Preparation is key to a successful job and more so on a painted kitchen.
