Refurbishing an existing kitchen

Refurbishing an existing kitchen by having it professionally hand painted is a hassle free, cost effective way of making the most and modernising what you have already! There are never two kitchens the same. Each project is tailored to suit your choices, which is what makes a hand painted kitchen so unique and bespoke to you.

We often get asked the question “Don’t you get bored painting kitchen doors all day?” To be quite honest, No, we don’t, we love it! Every door and drawer front is part of the kitchen jigsaw and after all the meticulous preparation, the priming and expertly applying the top finishing coats, we finally get to put that jigsaw back together. Hand painting a kitchen is very satisfying and rewarding, which makes our job so special.

Refurbishing a Cottage Kitchen

This Country Cottage kitchen refurb is a good example of how we can transform your existing kitchen into something unique to you. The client inherited this kitchen when they purchased the house and it definitely wasn’t their cup of tea. It had previously been very badly painted with a dark blue and white, and was in need of some serious prep and TLC to bring it back to life.

There was lots of preparing and filling on this project to get it ready for painting. Not every kitchen we refurbish is this labour intensive but the previous painting was shocking! Whenever we do need to go this far with the prep, we always use our dustless sanding equipment. There is literally very little dust and no mess!

Once all the sanding is complete, we then mask up and protect all the surrounding surfaces before we begin to apply any paint. Only the frames, cornice and fixed panels are painted on-site. We take all the doors, drawers and kickboards back to the workshop. It’s easier for us and less inconvenience for you. We then bring the doors back once they are all painted and fully dry.

Parma gray kitchen

Hand painted finish

The clients colour choice was Parma Gray from the Farrow and Ball colour palette. This was mixed to an equivalent colour into our specified specialist paint. All areas received a primer and 2 top coats as standard practice., some colours may need additional coats for maximum coverage. The clients decided to keep the existing door handles and knobs as they worked well against the Parma Gray coloured units. We do have a recommended supplier of Ironmongery called Slingers1858 they have a huge range of cabinet hardware to chose from and can offer great discounts to our customers. Just ask us for the discount code at the time of booking in your hand painted kitchen.

Mission Accomplished!

All of the doors and drawers were returned fully painted. We refitted the hardware, replaced a few broken hinges, re-aligned all the doors and checked the drawer runners were all functioning properly. We suggested painting the kickboards black on this project as it gave a nice break between the patterned tiled flooring and the cabinets. It also gave the illusion of them being raised which makes them look slighter deeper. We now have a fully functioning, clean, bright, totally unique hand painted kitchen with a beautifully smooth and durable finish with a very happy client.
