The Fox Project in Lincolnshire was another hand painted kitchen project carried out on behalf of Cooks & Company of Newark on Trent. A stunning luxury bespoke kitchen with matching utility room and TV media display unit. Set in a beautiful village out in the Lincolnshire countryside.
Cooks and Company are a long established supplier of luxury kitchens. Based in Newark, Nottinghamshire, they have a dedicated kitchen and interiors showroom and a separate appliance showroom showcasing over 40 brands. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
The Fox Project is just one example of the high quality bespoke kitchens that Cooks and Company offer. We have been fortunate enough to have been approached by Cooks a few years ago, with an opportunity to provide our services for their hand painted kitchen range. We have also carried out the hand painting to several kitchen displays within their extensive showrooms on Brundel Drive in Newark-on-Trent.
Hand painting a new kitchen
When hand painting a new kitchen, a slightly different approach is required. The installation can often be during a new build or renovation project, with lots of other trades around and everyone trying to meet dead lines and completion dates. We always try and be as accommodating as possible but obviously when hand painting luxury bespoke kitchens, a dust free environment is essential!
Credit to my colleague Sharon – The Kitchen Paintress. When working on new installation projects like this one, there is always lots of pre-preparation to do and of course lots of hand painting! It can be very demanding doing a project like this on your own, so an extra pair of hands is always grateful. Especially when these hands are as experienced as Sharon’s with hand painted kitchens. Sharon often works alongside me on a variety of projects and has many years of experience. Her skill set is very admirable and the experience and knowledge she brings with that, is invaluable. We remove all the doors and drawers as we would when painting existing kitchens. These are stacked onto our portable drying racks in a dust free area, or we take them back to the workshop.
In-frame kitchens usually have pre stained and lacquered carcasses, so we need to mask off to ensure sharp neat lines where the carcass meets the painted frames. On some kitchen installations, the worktops are already fitted. On a Cooks and Co’ installation, they often wait until the painting is completed. We dont mind either way but it is slightly easier before the work surfaces are installed.
Although most new kitchens come pre primed from the factory, we still give them a thorough prep and light sanding before applying any paints. We then apply our own high adhesion primer, followed by two top coats, sometimes three, depending on the colour choice. This project was painted in the equivalent colour to Farrow and Ball Cornforth White.
In addition to the kitchen and utility, we hand painted the built in TV media unit in the same colour. This kitchen would become the heart of a beautiful family home with young children and dogs, so the products we use need to be hard wearing and durable, besides aesthetically pleasing.
